Put your kids to bed. Don't let the dog watch. This is not a family blog. Never has been, never will be.
We cover adult topics here: alcohol, masochism, banjos and sometimes sex. And we curse: fuck.
Now let's cover these topics in order, shall we?
I'm starting to think the breweries are worse than retailers. Go to your local beer dispensary and you'll see that the shelves are full of Christmas ales and winter warmers.
Just this week I had my first glass of Great Lakes Christmas Ale from the tap. While grocery shopping, I spotted Great Divide Hibernation Ale, Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, and Dogfish Head Chicory Stout should be on the way.
We all have our favorites. Drink up and get in the holiday spirit. Even if it is too early in the season.
It is not too early, however, to think about dressing for the cold weather. Snow has already been in the forecast here on the North Coast. Have you brushed up on your winter running rules?
Follow my links to learn how to stay warm and alive during the cold, dark months of the year. Find such tips as using shaving cream to keep your glasses from fogging up. Ask me in the comments if you have a question I haven't answered before, and I'll address it next week.
This weekend is my monthly Old Time jam session. Maybe I should learn to play a holiday tune on my banjo. "Breaking Up Christmas" anyone?
And sex? Yes, that too.
Back Talk
Wherein we discuss footwear and innuendo
Funnyrunner is curious about my new containers: "Interesting that you're trying those 'shoes.' I've seen them and look so funny. I've been tempted to switch to a free or minimalist shoe, but, having been injured in the past by wearing the wrong shoes and not having been injured for the past 7 years from my Brooks Adrenalines, I'm going with the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy. Although ... I've been having arch discomfort during some runs recently ...
"How are the Vibrums for the arch? (I have an average arch) Keep us updated."
Answer: Vibrams are great for the arch in that there is no arch support to weaken the structure of your foot. However, if you're not used to that, you'll have to ease into it to avoid injury.
[Drunkard's note: I'm not a doctor. I just play one in bed.]
Al is dissatisfied with how quickly some people jump on things: "Jamoosh beat me, and then BrianFlash did ..."
Answer: Yes, they came early, didn't they?
Happy Hour is nearly upon us, teammates. Have a finely brewed weekend. Run well and drink well. Cheers!

At least your weather will support a "winter warmer." Down here in Texas, "winter warmer" weather doesn't arrive until January. Not that it stops me or anything...
There are only 50 days left until Christmas, according to the countdown some lady at work has been keeping since LAST Christmas.
I'm not ready.
If I drink enough beer, might I be able to slide through the holiday season without even noticing?
We shall see.
Sláinte!
I noticed the Christmas Beers last weekend at the store. D got the Chicory Stout and I got Smuttynose Winter. Then we got Terrapin's Moo-Hoo. Still waiting for their Wake n Bake. And Southern Tier had something I wanted to try to, although I don't recall what.
I have already spotted a wreathe or two on the leading edge of out of state SUVs... and it is snowing here in NC today.
Ahh Christmas Ale...I once had 4 of those on an empty stomach, took the dog for a walk, and looked like a rockette walking my dog around the block. Love the holidays!
