After a blistering three-miler on Tuesday, I thought I was getting off to a great start on running this week. Not so fast, says Mr. Germ. Instead of logging miles, I'm left to contemplate the running ahead.
I have yet to pick my race schedule this year, and I've already missed a couple races I wanted to run this year because of bad weather and scheduling issues. It's unlike me to get this far into the year without a race under my belt. The only thing that comes close is Razz's virtual race last month.
Without further ado, here are my racing plans for 2010, in order by distance, which is also conveniently by date:
- Tallmadge Memorial 5-K, May 31
- Jim Klett Memorial 10-K, June 19
- Davey Tree 10-K, July 3
- Buckeye Half Marathon, Aug. 29
- Akron Marathon, Sept. 25
Goals: PRs all around! That means a sub-22:29 5-K, sub-49:01 10-K, sub-1:49:09 half marathon and sub-4:04:47 marathon. The BIG GOAL, as usual, is to get under four hours at the Akron Marathon.
Training: More hills, more barefoot and near-barefoot running, more miles, more freedom, more fun and more what else?

More booze, I'd assume.
I'm getting whacked with allergies right now. Stupid trees.
I'm suffering today from a drippy nose too. Not sure if it's a cold or allergies though -- I just have the snot faucet, nothing else.
That looks like a promising race calendar! I think the Pub Crawl, no matter the decided distance, should for sure be added!
Dude, man up - suck down some NyQuil - and stop whining.
Sorry you feel so miserable. Where is the buckeye 1/2?
I'm thinking of doing Akron. Seriously.
Sounds like a great list. Good luck!
No Cleveland Half? I'm doing it this year with my dad and I was kinda hoping I'd run into you there.
Nice schedule. I see PR's all around...once you start hitting your planned runs of course.
Good build to that marathon. No reason you can't get the grand slam - PRs in all five races!
Cool...and it IS nice that they worked out in distance/date order. I might have to think about the Akron Marathon.
