Trail Running 101

Trails are unforgiving to feet shufflers. The uneven terrain will trip you in a heartbeat if you don't lift your knees. This time of year in Ohio, you must relearn this lesson.

The smell of decaying foliage permeates the air. The leaves are falling. Most of the Mingo and Dogwood trails at Sand Run was covered with a patchwork quilt of color. While it makes for a pretty view and soft footing, the leaf covering hides treacherous terrain.

Throughout my four-mile run yesterday, I had to remind myself to pick up my feet and be wary of those unseen ankle busters.

It's good to have these reminders about maintaining good form. Getting back to basics every once in a while helps to erase bad habits that may have developed.

We're in the middle of an Indian Summer (is that racist?), with temperatures in the 60s and 70s all this week. It rained off an on yesterday, but it's supposed to be sunny skies after work. My gear bag rests beside me, waiting.

We're hitting 80 for a few days in a row now. I'm craving trails. As long as it doesn't rain saturday I'm golden.

The temps and falling leaves sound delightful. Trails, in general, sound delightful!
