Flashback Friday: Too Hot to Finish

The temperature was 95 degrees when I finally made it to the Sand Run par course.

After completing a lap, I took a cue from those recent marathons and canceled the remainder of my run.

The two miles and 20 exercise stations (not 16, as erroneously reported yesterday) were plenty exercise on such a hot day.

Today is a short day at work, so I can make up the three miles I skipped yesterday. All is well. The real question will be the planned mileage for this weekend. For some reason Saturday and Sunday have been my downfall.

My goal is to get out early and get my runs out the way. A successful week will go a long way in building up my confidence again.

Back Talk
Wherein we talk about failure, despite my preference not to discuss these matters

David puts my mind at ease about my current track of failure: "All this distraction is temporary. In my case, it only lasted from 1986 to 2008 (marriage, dissertation, three kids, business start-up). Now I'm back to being focused on the important things in life -- like running."

Answer: Hopefully, my adjustment period isn't a dozen years long. But as long as this interlude is enjoyable, it doesn't really matter. Running will always be here. Whether I'm setting new PRs or not, it still keeps me active.

Happy Hour is nearly upon us, teammates! Have a finely brewed weekend. Run well and drink well. Cheers!

You continue to suck at math. David's hiatus was 22 years long, not 12.

Happy weekend, slacker.

Xenia is technically correct. However, the interlude felt like a few months not years. So there is no reliable metric.

Running will always be there. And it doesn't need numbers.

Finally - I will celebrate my featured comment with an icy cold PBR this weekend.
