Oh Yes I Did

My next pair will have individual toe holes.
Faced with the prospect of freezing temperatures this season in Northeast Ohio, I decided to take action to give my feet some insulation while running in my new Vibram KSOs. Now, I like to get new stuff as much as the next consumer, but I really love making do with what I have.

Instead of jumping on eBay as Barefoot Josh suggested to buy cheap toe socks, I dove into my sock drawer for a pair of ordinary tube socks. Next I used my red-handled serrated scissors to cut two holes in each sock, one smaller hole for my big toe and one large hole for the rest of the little toes.

I knew I would need to have some way to keep the socks from riding up when I squeezed into the Vibrams, which explains the separate holes. However, there was still some toe wedgie action, which may need to be addressed in future models of my toe-less socks.

Unfortunately, I picked a day when the temperatures were in the high 50s to road test my new invention. The good news I guess is that my feet were hot, but the socks did not impede my comfort or stride in any way. Bring on the cold!

Shouldn't there be obnoxious red or blue stripes on those tube socks? Or did I just inadvertantly pop over to the 70's and back?

J, you might have to get out of the 70s.

Great idea though!

Don't socks with no fabric over the toes sort of defeat the purpose of keeping your feet insulated?

Just get the Injinji socks and be done with it! It's useless to resist.

Plus they come in sexy stripes, and who doesn't need stripey socks?

Very creative. But couldn't this time be better spent learning to play the banjo? Buy some shoes, hippie.

Are you saving all your money for the big wedding? Or are you just a cheapskate?

Creative nonetheless.
