Under the Influence

Awhile back, I loaned Martini my copy of Christopher McDougall's Born to Run.

Monday evening, I got this text: "Well, I'm only on page 177 and I'm convinced. Thanks."

Last night, I got this text: "Drop off that book. You two around later?"

Apparently, Martini started and finished the book in one fell swoop and was ready to return it. I wasn't surprised. It only took me a business trip to read the book that everyone credits with starting The Great Barefoot Boom.

When he stopped by the apartment, we chatted about running. He is considering barefoot. He already threw out his orthotics and has tried to adapt a more barefoot-like stride. He was easy pickings, considering he just came back from a four-week layoff because of shin pain.

Usually, I'm the one under Martini's influence. It's nice to have the tables turned. The barefooters can thank me for converting another one to their ranks. Consider me the cattle prod at the slaughterhouse.

Nope, don't see the fascination with this fad. You'll enjoy my upcoming post wherein I compare the barefoot boom to disco - if I ever get around to posting again. But, enjoy!

Nitmos - please, please, please post. I can't run 400 meters without someone asking my why I don't run barefoot.

Nice of you to return the favor to your pal. It is a fantastic read, no getting around it!

I would only thank you if I were getting a commission or something. All you're doing is making us less special.

Stayin' alive,

Josh

Just got my copy of the book from Amazon. So I'll start reading shortly.

But, like Nitmos, I just don't quite understand the fad. Right now, I'm sticking with my Asics.
