It had been a couple weeks since I've run completely barefoot. It had also been a full week since the temperature had been below 90 degrees. The sun had baked the pavement all day before I started my run.
The hot ground seemed like a smart reminder to keep my cadence fast so as not to burn my soles. Everything was going fine until I ran over a patch of wet sidewalk that had been soaked by a trio of sprinklers. Shortly thereafter, I started to notice some pain on the balls of my feet by my pinkie toes and on the pad of my left big toe.
I couldn't tell if I was pushing off or not taking fast enough steps or if the hot spots and blisters were a result of the wet and hot terrain, but something was awry and I spent the final mile trying not to run on my feet, which resulted in utter failure.
My feet were very tender for the remainder of the evening, but they feel much better today.
Soon, the Enthusiast and I will be headed to our engagement site to see the Tall Ships as an early birthday celebration for her. I believe a cocktail will be in order.
Happy Hour is nearly upon us, teammates. Have a finely brewed weekend. Run well and drink well. Cheers!
