The Sound of Rubber

If I were to write the onomatopoeia for the sound my feet made last night, you would think I was making a lewd reference to masturbation for all the fapping you'd see. But the truth is my strides were loud. And of course, everyone on the west side of Akron was outside to hear me be everything other than silent but deadly.

My second run in the hippie shoes was an experiment of terrain. I traversed brick road, asphalt, concrete, train tracks and grass. The thin rubber of my huaraches lets me feel a lot more than I expected.

Asphalt was the surface of majority, and it was in bad shape with winter having just left us. There were large pot holes and millions of tiny rocks and pebbles for me to feel under foot.

My pace was about a minute per mile faster than my first run. The harder surfaces of this route, compared to that of Hampton Hills, wore on my calves. My feet also feel a bit beat up, and I'm already starting to get that flip-flop callous between my toes.

After my short tour of the surrounding neighborhoods, I came home for a batch of Elevens. I was really focused on good form and managed a slightly faster round (8:54) than my post-fatigued form Elevens last week.

I've forgotten about the whole core thing - I should probably get back on that track. Uh, tomorrow.

In your honor, I will have our boys afterschool running club play the Tarahumara "Ball Game" today.

Although not barefoot and not for 40 hours.

It's still an honor:)

Viper, you are a brave soul. Still friggin cold up here and blowing like a bugger. Wouldn't think of barefoot runs at this time of the year. Okay, call me a sissy. I can handle it.

So....did you listen to the Grateful Dead on your run? Do tech shirts come in psychedelic tie-dye?

Hope that in true hippie-form you skipped a shower afterward. No, wait, why would I suggest THAT?

Faster is always a good thing.

I have no idea how you manage to run in hippie shoes like that without getting realllly annoyed by the string between your toes!

I wonder at the effective stopping power on those old tires...
