Planning Accordingly

The quest for 1,000 miles is out of the triple digits. The challenge seems more manageable now, but still daunting.

I broke 900 miles on Sunday, but I didn't fulfill my running plans for the week. It occurs to me that my plans keep going astray. But then I remembered the reason why I wanted to run more days per week: I need to be flexible to deal with the weather.

From now on, I will only plan my running schedule on a week-to-week basis. Last Thursday, I determined that I need to average four miles per day for the rest of the month to reach my goal.

I am two miles in the hole to start this week. What was going to be eight miles yesterday was only six because of the cold and snowy surface conditions.

However, this week, the temperature is supposed to sniff 50 degrees. I should be able to make up those miles and have a successful week.

Based on the weather forecast, here is this week's intended schedule:
  • Monday: 4 miles
  • Tuesday: 7 miles
  • Wednesday: 5 miles
  • Thursday: 4 miles
  • Friday: 4 miles
  • Saturday: 8 miles
  • Sunday: nada
A Total of 32 miles, which puts me two miles up on next week.

Those dirty, thieving crooks at Runner's World have done it again. They stole my headline and now they've stolen my stolen idea about screw shoes. On page 50 of the recent issue, you will see an article about screw shoes, which I might have mentioned before. Just remember, you heard it here first. Even though I heard about screw shoes from here. Of course, I got all mad at Runner's World when I saw the article, but then I realized that I actually first read about screw shoes here. Sorry, false alarm.

Mile Tracker 1,000: 98 miles to go.

If you run 32 miles this week I'll eat my hat, the sweaty red sox one.

The taking it one week at a time thing seems to be working for me - 57 more miles to go! I even ran a Girls on the Run race on Saturday morning after drinking two 23 ounce beers at Rock Bottom Brewery.

Keep up the good work 'cause I really don't want to hear the whining if you don't make it. ;o)

Now I'm torn between wanting to see you fail and seeing Vanilla eat his hat. At least it's a win for me either way.

I really like your idea about coming up with a weekly schedule based upon the forecast. I'll be looking for it in next month's issue of RW...
