Sunrise over Calgary. |
I was determined Tuesday morning to prove that I could still run for an hour. I probably managed 9 kilometers (hey, when in the land of metric measurement, right?), running from my hotel in downtown Calgary to the Bow River Pathway, out along the river on one side and back along the other. That's where the above picture was taken.
All in all, I felt pretty good, but then I spent the rest of the day walking around Calgary. First, to the convention center, then around the exhibition hall for a couple hours, back to the hotel, then out to the nearest casino, then to shop for a present for my wife and back to the hotel again.
I've been sore ever since. Just in time for race day.

I've always heard Calgary was beautiful. I'd say you did it just right. You just need more recovery. I did the same thing hiking over huge sand dunes the day before a half ironman. it happens. You'll be fine.
Well done! But you had to or it would be a huge shame to miss out on Calgary, right?
There's almost no difference between 9km and 9 miles so I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck. Break your leg!
