To Register and Not to Register

The pony is officially up. My bank account shows a pending debit of a Benjamin, Jefferson and Washington. I've forked over my registration fees, and my race ticket is now booked. Buckeye Half Marathon and Akron Marathon, here I come, slowly.

There was some speculation that I might also race this coming weekend, but the budget says no. Once again I'll miss the AkRun and Pub Crawl. Maybe next year. Instead, the Enthusiast and I have a date with our fancy new camera that we got for Christmas and keep forgetting to use. We're going on a photo adventure, not that you'll see any of them here.

With my race entries in place, I'm starting to get those "oh shit" jitters. I know it's going to be a struggle to run these events without giving into my competitive urges and getting caught up in racing instead of enjoying myself. One of my big goals for last year's Akron Marathon was to enjoy myself, which I did, but I also set a PR, which made the enjoyment part pretty easy.

Last night, I accidentally overly carb-loaded with delicious Dontino's spaghetti and gained six pounds for this morning's four-miler. I felt gross and was markedly slower than my last run. Although I know I won't be able to run as fast as I did at last year's races, I'd like to at least get down to the weight I was a year ago. Maybe if I spent more money on race fees, I wouldn't have as much money to spend on gorging myself at restaurants.

Your not-safe-for-blogging photo adventure sounds potentially scandalous. Children read this blog, you know. All right, maybe not actual children, but people with simple child-like minds. And at least half of them are seriously inebriated.

Think of the drunk children, Viper!

I have to agree with Xenia here. Something is obviously backwards.
