The Strangest Thing

My schedule called for a four-mile recovery run on Monday. When I got home from work yesterday evening, the weirdest thing happened: I put on my running clothes and ran those four miles as the plan dictated.

The last time I ran my Monday recovery run on Monday was a month ago. It has only happened four times during this training cycle.

After a rough training week, I needed a mindless run. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to wear my new and improved hippie shoes (aka huarache sandals).

Last week, I trimmed up the toe areas of the homemade shoes to prevent the soles from flapping. I trotted around the neighborhood at a dreadfully slow pace.

I'm sick of seeing 11-minute miles on my training log. Thankfully, tomorrow's tempo run should cure that ailment -- should.

The good news is that my hippie shoes were much quieter and the toes didn't fold under once. I'll have to try them again on the trails.

I'm really bad about skipping my Monday workouts too. That's why I usually schedule cross training they day. I don't feel as bad about skipping it! Way to get out there and get it done!

chah. I know what you mean. I was doing well with my training schedule until a work trip to Europe interrupted. And now the heat...if I don't get up at 5 freaking am it's impossible to run in this heat... and I'm TIRED and I don't WANNA get up that early... okay. finished whining now. Ready for fall weather paired with a summer schedule!
