July's mileage will creep up to 40 per week, approaching last year's peak (43 miles in September 2009). I will continue to improve my speed by focusing on middle distance tempo runs, many marathon race pace miles, and hills, hills, and more hills.
I'd like to find a race. Something in the neighborhood of a 10-K. I'm still miffed that the Davey Tree 10-K was canceled. The race organizers decided to drop the 10-K event, which my first ever race, and change the 5-K to an admittedly more interesting point-to-point course.
However, the race now starts 6 p.m. and "finishes during the evenving [sic] events and firewaorks [sic again] at the Kent Heritage Festival." Tell me, who the fuck wants to wait around all day for a piddly three miles on a holiday weekend? Not only will it be hot as balls, but there are barbecues and beverages to be had.
If I had the money to throw away, maybe I'd run it drunk just for shits and giggles.

I would say that my beer investment would not survive a 5K that late in the day.
Maybe the RDs were drunk when they worte that race description!
Oops, I'm one to talk, huh? Clearly, I meant "wrote."
I don't know about giggles...
A buddy once told me about a 10 mile "race" back when he was in college that was one a one-mile loop. Each lap you had to drink a can of beer (don't remember which one, but I'm sure you wouldn't approve; PBR, probably). If you vomit, you lose. He was only able to finish once, and that was because he got uber high beforehand. The whole anti-nausea thing seemed to do the trick.
He lost to the guy who sold him the pot, which I think is only fitting.
I think Josh has the right idea...I have a friend who is sponsoring a 5k fundraiser in the evening. It is a progressive run...stopping every 1/2 mile or so at someone's house for a beer. That's the way to do an evening 5k.
Viper,
Alcohol is a performance enhancing substance...you don't want to get banned do ya?
Nice job increasing the mileage this month! Hope you enjoy many beverages this long weekend!
