Flashback Friday: Deadline to Finish Line

Team BHI is heading toward deadlines on Monday next week at work and then finish lines the next Monday at the Tallmadge Memorial 5-K. Running has been erratic around HQ. In what seems to be an endless refrain this year, I followed my 20-mile week with an eight-mile week. My goals for the race are going to be daunting.

Thankfully, I'm full of bull shit true grit and mid-race road rage. A little competition should boost my adrenaline and lower my pace.

Wherein we find out why Cleveland isn't where you'll make a living.

EZEthan has an idea why the big name elites don't race the Cleveland Marathon: "Sounds like the prize money is too low ... it is cool that the top local runners can actually be successful ... maybe races should start giving out an additional award to the top local athlete (maybe the top runner from the state the event is in or the top runner within a certain radius from the event?) ... I wouldn't want it be advocating any anti-foreigner sentiment or anything, but it would be nice if you could have some success without being a professional runner!"

Answer: Yes, it's true, the prize money is low: $1,000 for the marathon winners, $1,500 for the 10-K winners (yes, the 10K still seems to be the premier event), and no money whatsoever for the half marathon winners. I agree that it's nice that locals can win a major city marathon. Raising the prize money would likely ruin it for them. Besides, we got this recession on.
