In Absentia

Team BHI is going on a field trip. Team officials are headed southbound toward the Carolinas for some much needed R-and-R. The Buzz Bus will make its first stop in the Durham area, a daylong sojourn to Asheville, and then finally down Charleston. There will be plenty of boozing, and there will even be sightseeing on the run. All of which means, I will not be online the rest of the week after today.

But fear not, drunken teammates. I will still entertain you through the miracle of pre-written scheduled posts, like this one. (You thought I'd bother writing on the weekend? Fooled you!) I will return next Monday.

Meanwhile, if you have any suggestions for places to run and drink in those locations -- specifically, Durham, where I'll be spending most of the week -- please let me know.

Enjoy your week. Catch you on the flip side.

What, no time spent in Rockingham County? We're #1! In unemployment, anyway.

I'm of no help for watering holes. Here in Cackalacky, we make our own booze. One eye on the still, the other watching for the tax man.

Asheville has great running and great drinking.

Visit Jus' Running on Merrimon for trail runs etc... Merrimon will also take you downtown where all the crazies hang out. No shortage of the good beer. To get some brews to go visit Greenlife (between downtown and Jus' Running)

Brought to you by the wonderful folks who live close enough but still too far away... me.

Asheville is beautiful - definitely try to find a run around there. Just watch out for the hippies.

When a barefoot runner tells you to watch out for the hippies, you'd better watch out for the hippies.

Durham-Tyler's Taproom, Mellow Mushroom...the pool hall where they filmed Bull Durham is there too, can't remember the name of it.
Raleigh's Glenwood Ave has some pretty good bars-good microbrews, Boylan Bridge on Hillsborough
Charleston-ANYWHERE. If you can have lunch in town, go to Slightly North of Broad (SNOB), best lunch deal ever.

In Asheville:
Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company
Barley's Taproom
Hannah Flanagan's Irish Pub
Jack of the Wood

Skip the Biltmore. It is overrated.
